Today is Blogging Day!

According to the schedule I set up for myself, today is the day to talk about blogging.  I have been blogging for years and years, but not in a way to make any money or to be considered a business.  If you peruse Pinterest much, there’s so much info about blogging there that you can easily become overwhelmed.  Do this–Don’t do that–Post here–Don’t post at this time, etc.  I simply want to have a blog that I can enjoy and hopefully someone else will enjoy also.  Now that is not to say that if I could make a little money off my blogs, I would complain.  But my main focus is to enjoy blogging.

If someone is just starting out, I would recommend just doing it.  Find a platform you like, settle on a focus you enjoy, and just do it.  Once you get used to blogging regularly, then you can try out new things to increase your readers, or to monetize certain topics, or even to learn about advertising elsewhere.  Initially, all you need to do is blog!  And blog regularly.  I know, I know.  I was gone for almost two years, and for that I am sorry but I was otherwise focused during that time.  Now that I have retired, I plan to blog daily throughout the week; following my schedule I set up; and enjoy myself while I do it.

For future blogging posts, I think I will take a pin from pinterest and discuss what I find there.  That way, I can talk about the pros and cons of doing what is recommended and I can let you know how it is working out for me, too.  So, each week, on Thursday, I will be visiting another site and trying out their suggestions and then talking about what I find there.

There are several sites that I have found already and that I really like.  The most common suggestion I have found so far is to develop a good editorial calendar.  This is something that makes good sense to me, but I am finding it very hard to do.  The information out there is slim to none, or else designed for use by businesses.  I am struggling to develop a calendar, but for now I think I will just settle for having my schedule.  I know that doesn’t give me any advanced planning except vaguely, but I will have to work with it for now.

I am sure there will be more to come on this topic.  Will you tell me what issues you are having with beginning blogging?  I would love to hear from you.
